THE HISTORICAL SOURCE VALUE OF TOPONYMS IN RECONSTRUCTING EARLY HUNGARIAN BORDER DEFENSE The study examines the historical source value of toponyms related to early Hungarian border defense. It analyzes the potential use of these names in reconstructing the location and functioning of the gyepű system, emphasizing that toponyms alone do not provide a complete picture. Toponyms can only be assessed in conjunction with other written and material evidence, serving as a supplementary source in historical reconstructions.
