COUNT JUAN AMOR DE SORIA: IMPRESSIONS OF AN AUSTRACIST EXILE ON THE EUROPEAN POLICY OF EMPEROR CHARLES VI (1715–1736) The Peace of Utrecht-Rastatt of 1713–1714 ended the War of the Spanish Succession and ushered in a new era in international relations. However, there was no agreement between the two main rivals in the dynastic struggle, the now Emperor Charles VI, who had been proclaimed King of Spain with the title of Charles III of Austria, and Philip V of Bourbon, which prolonged the consequences of the war both internationally and as a civil conflict, at least until the Peace of Vienna in 1725. This work focuses on the figure of Count Juan Amor de Soria, an Austracist exile from the War of the Spanish Succession. The count had a long career in the service of Emperor Charles VI, which began in Barcelona and during which he was ennobled. Juan Amor de Soria left behind a valuable body of work, which is essential reading for understanding the positions and thinking of the Austrian side during and after the War of the Spanish Succession. Specifically, this study analyses Addiziones, a work completed in Vienna in 1736 in which the author assesses the European policy of the Court of Vienna between 1715 and 1736, particularly with regard to Philip’s monarchy, from the perspective of the failure of the War of the Polish Succession, which particularly affected the exiles who still remained in the Habsburg Empire.
