Parliamentarism in the Age of Dualism from a Regional Perspective. --- The study summarises the aims, methods and key findings of the research project “Parliamentarism in the Age of Dualism from a Regional Perspective,” conducted between 2020 and 2025. The project examined Hungarian parliamentarism in the Dualist era not only at the level of national institutional history, but within the regional framework of county and urban elite structures and the activity of nationality political actors. On the basis of a unified protocol, the research team created a relational database covering several thousand office-holders, which made it possible to trace the temporal alignment of administrative careers as well as kinship, social and political networks, and provided a foundation for network analysis. The county- and city-level case studies demonstrate that, despite the progress of modernisation and professionalisation, the local political-administrative elite remained for a long time a closed group, largely of noble origin, which—through kinship ties and electoral distortions—restricted the political representation of the nationalities. The strategies of the Romanian and Slovak national elites ranged between confrontational and cooperative models, while their parliamentary presence was realised through multiple channels. The results of the project, published in the form of monographs, edited volumes and a methodological handbook, contributed to a reinterpretation of the regional dynamics of the political system in the Dualist period and, at the same time, offer a transferable model for elite studies concerning other periods and regions.
