Absztrakt (kivonat)
Is Network a Network? On the Notion of State Security Agency ----- Both academic and informative papers on the Hungarian State Security before 1990 used the term, network as a label for the agents (informers) of political police. Although we are dealing with a state security terminus technicus, we can still detect some network theoretical and scientific meanings in its usage. This paper will study the term of agent network based on various norms in domestic affairs, studies and academic works, and then, it will seek answer whether this network align with the scientific criteria of this notion. According to its main conclusion, the state security network cannot be considered as a network in the strict sense of network theory. The term had only a metaphorical meaning in the context of state security work, when the coverage of a region, or the whole country with secret information was needed or demanded. However, certain network research methods can be properly applied during the investigation of the agent network: not so much in the macro-, quantitative studies (there are not enough sources for that) but mostly in the qualitative analysis of relations and information transmittance.
