School play (melodramma) as educational piece Romanization and Horatianism in Károly Döme’s translation of Metastasio’s Regulus published in a new volume (1815) ----- The volume by Károly Döme published in 1815 (Ismét egykét játék Metastasióból) contains the translations of Metastasio’s plays, including the drama about Attilius Regulus. Beside the Greek, Hellenistic and Byzantine themes of school drama, the plays with Roman content are also important, whereas the broader range of Latin humanitas and Latin literacy belonging to the system of studia humanistas can be drawn. The same shall aplly to the volume of Károly Döme, namely the summary (A Játék’ foglalattya) also gives us the interpretation of the apperance of Roman moral. When we list the sources of Regulus’ acts, it is indispensable to mention Horatius, whose Regulus Ode (3.5.) in Roman odes is a key play of Romanitas and later Horatianism. The fact that Döme published translations of Horatius’ carmens in Tóldalék also confirms this statement. Metastasio’s Regulus-drama and especially Döme’s translation can be partly interpreted on this basis.
