THE DEPARTMENT OF HUNGARIAN LINGUISTICS IN EGER: 75 YEARS OF HISTORY In the 2024/2025 academic year, the University of Eger celebrated several anniversaries. On 4 November 1774, Bishop Károly Eszterházy founded the Eger Law Academy, regarded as the predecessor of our institution, and this academic year also marks the 75th anniversary of the launch of teacher education in Eger. The Department of Hungarian Linguistics within the Institute of Language and Literary Studies is therefore also 75 years old, and this anniversary offers an opportunity not only for commemoration but also for reflection and evaluation. In my paper, I review the history of the Department of Hungarian Linguistics in Eger from its beginnings, highlighting those periods that represented turning points in the history of our institution. I provide a detailed overview of the activities of the heads of department and also devote attention to presenting our current activities.
