The Fate of the Jesuit Residence and College in Ungvár after the Suppression of the Society of Jesus ----- For over two centuries, the Society of Jesus was one of the most powerful religious orders of the early modern period. Its suppression had far-reaching consequences—not only concerning questions of intellectual and educational succession, but also regarding the fate of the Society’s movable and immovable property. This study examines the reasons behind the dissolution of the Jesuit Order and explores its effects on the Jesuit college in Ungvár, particularly in terms of what became of the college’s assets and the fate of the Jesuit fathers residing there. Following the suppression, part of the college’s movable property and real estate in Ungvár was auctioned off, with the proceeds transferred to the Educational Fund. Other buildings and several plots of land were donated by Maria Theresa to the Greek Catholic Diocese of Munkács. The intellectual legacy of the Jesuit college in Ungvár, however, did not vanish. The Diocese of Munkács became the guardian of its spiritual traditions, while the Royal Gymnasium of Ungvár took over its educational mission. The relocation of the episcopal residence to Ungvár also gave new momentum to the city’s development.
