Absztrakt (kivonat)
’O look upon me, as giant fly and believe that I am in your net’. Tibor Tollas in the State Security’s net ---- The name of Tibor Tollas appears in more than two hundred documents in the Historical Archives of the State Security Services (ABTL). The State Security had been collecting information about Tollas since 1945 until the regime transition, and daily operative reports were also recorded on his activities from 1979 to 1989. The sole fact, that he was a political prisoner, and then, he left his home after the oppression of the Revolution of 1956 could have been enough reason for that level of surveillance, but he was even a more colorful figure of the Hungarian emigration. As a formal gendarme and military officer, he had close ties to the leader of the Comradely Community of Hungarian Fighters (MHBK). As the editor of the National Guard, he became a significant figure of the emigrant press. As a poet, and a spirited orator, he took an active role in the literary life of the emigration too, just as an author, or as a literary politics organizer. In line with the Hungarian tradition, he represented the triumvirate of ‘writer, politician, military commander’ in the 20th century during his life. In this paper, I will examine what extent the network elements (here the term does not indicate the network of State Security) play role in the series of surveillance activities, and whether is it possible to conclude any systematic, regulative patterns based on the reports on Tibor Tollas. Through his figure, one can learn about the emigration policy of the time, and about its ambiguous and often contrasting system of relations with the Hungarian political regime, and more about the operation of various organizations of the emigration, or the motivation of its leaders.
