Absztrakt (kivonat)
Aspects and Scenes of Prince Paul Anton Esterházy’s English Relations between 1819 and 1825 ----- Prince Paul Anton Esterházy (1786–1866) has been Austria’s ambassador to London for almost three decades, which period serves numerous interesting moments from a political history perspective. Apart from questions of international relations and history of diplomacy, there will be other aspects to approach the portrait of Paul Anton Esterházy. Alongside the official administration, reports, intergovernmental consultations and the – often monotonous – routine of the foreign service, there was a different, less formal side of it. Social events represented a link between the personal-, and the official sphere, they – although personal relations were also significant factors at formal levels during the period – provided more space for enabling one‘s individual qualities to prevail. As Austria’s ambassador to London, Esterházy has been actively engaged in both formal and informal scenes. During my ongoing research, I will try to reconstruct an egocentric network formed around the prince. At this current rudimentary level of my research, I will start my investigation on the relations built around the prince in the 1810s and 1820s, because there are several sources from this period. This paper will publish the first outcomes of the research.
