The Role of Ephemerides Budenses in the Hungarian Theatre History ----- Ephemerides Budenses was a Latin language journal published in Buda between 1790–1793. Its two editors, Mihály Tertina and Pál Spielenberg evolved a programme for developing Hungarian language, which turned a determinative goal of their journal. One of the main fields of this programme was an efficient support of the Hungarian language theatre, especially of László Kelemen’s company. My paper investigates the four main types of items and articles concerning theatre. The first type includes synthetic writings about the connection between theatre and the development of Hungarian language. In the second type there are reports about the institualisation of Hungarian language theatre. The third group contains reviews about dramas, and the fourth group consists short notions concerning particular dramatic performances. The second and the fourth groups are common and regular in the contemporary press, as my comparison with Pressburger Zeitung shows. As I see, there are two specialites of theatrical news published in Ephemerides Budenses. One is the programmatic concept about language developing effect of theatre. And the other was the editors’ intention to collect every Hungarian language dramas, to rate them by particular aesthetic values, and to urge the Hungarian writers for composing original Hungarian dramas.
