Actiones comicae and Actiones tragicae: the last dramas of the final period of Csíksomlyó theatre ----- Following the volume of Liber exhibens containing 48 passion plays of 1721– 1774, two other volumes were copied in the monastery of Csíksomlyó between 1773–1780: Actiones comicae and Actiones tragicae. The 13 dramas of the two volumes show the tendency of gradually leaving behind the older tradition of religious dramas, devotional genres, and Latinism. The title of the volumes refer to the medieval notion of comedy and tragedy, i.e., a plot with a happy or tragic ending. Still, one can find some special concept of tragic or comic plots. The performances kept the tradition: most tragedies were performed on Good Friday following the passion play tradition, and the comedies were performed on much happier occasions, like Whit Saturday. The last two comedies belong to the European style comedy already popular in Hungarian school theatre.
