„Practica More Conclusionis” A Celestial Trial and its Functions in the Codex Érdy ----- This paper presents a less known part of the Codex Érdy (National Széchényi Library, MNy 9, 461b–462b): a celestial trial inserted into the sermon written for the transfiguration of Jesus on the mount. Despite of its dramatic features it hasn’t been examined by the Hungarian drama researchers so far. The participants of the tribunal scene are: God, Jesus, Moses, Elias, Peter, Jacob, John and the angels. The source of the Hungarian text was the work of the Hungarian observant Franciscan preacher, Pelbartus de Themesvar (Pomerium de sanctis, pars aestivalis, sermo XLV.). The main difference between the Hungarian and the Latin texts is that the Hungarian compilator added a title to the celestial trial and inserted a few Latin paratexts next to the dialogues („Practica more conlusionis”; „Actus”, „Responsio”, „Probatio”, „Attestatio sanctorum”). We can assume that these insertions—because of their rhetorical connotations—might have pedagogical aims: as the codex was addressed for juveniles, too; while the word “practica” in the title links the texts to the school of Vincent Ferrer. The celebrations of the transfiguration is connected to the Hungarian history: the Church commemorates the victory at Belgrade over the Turks. This Hungarian concern may explain why this celestial trial was so spread in the country (we can detect its trace even from a poem from the 17th century): it might have been played as a drama, too.
