Absztrakt (kivonat)
The Fragment of Segesvár and the German Protestant Drama ----- The first – and until the end of the 16th century the only – Hungarian speaking drama written in metrical form, the so-called Fragment of Segesvár (“Segesvári töredék”) was printed in Szeben (Hermannstadt) at the turn of the year 1575–1576. The text treats the story of the three men in the fiery furnace described by the Book of Daniel (3:1–30). The metrical form of the text is unfamiliar in the old Hungarian tradition. The fragment contains 90 rhymed couplets (but there are longer parts which use the same rhyme and there are unrhymed lines), the number of the syllables in a line fluctuates between 6–14 and it occurs that the line is syntactically open-ended. Because of the metrical form of the text the Fragment was considered as an isolated phenomenon which has no connection to any tradition. From the point of view of the 16th century Hungarian poetry unfamiliar metrical structure can be easily interpreted in the tradition of the contemporary German drama.
