The songs of the 18th century Passion plays of Csíksomlyó published in „Nap, Hold és csillagok, velem zokogjatok!” [Sun, Moon and Stars, Weep with Me] ----- The collection of 12 passion plays of Csíksomlyó published in 2003 with modern orthography and director’s instructions in Hungarian was a great sensation since earlier only a fourth of these plays had been published (in the late 19th century). In the first volume of the critical edition of this enormous material (Ferences iskoladrámák [Franciscan School Dramas], 2009) the first four plays of the selection can be read in the original. As I discussed their music (1721–1739) at the conference in Nagyvárad in 2006, I only touch on them here tangentially, adding a few complementary remarks. Each of the remaining eight plays included music: songs, in some instrumental music and even dance. The songs of two (1743 and 1753) are presented in the festive volume “Reflections” published for the 70th birthday of folk music researcher Mária Domokos in 2012. The book “Sun, Moon and Stars, Weep with me” is a representative selection both of the dramatic texts and the music (plainchants, folk hymns, poetic texts) of this stock which is still only known partially.
